This chalet d’alpage (mountain hut) is located in Bonnavaz, 10 minutes from the ski resorts of Les Gets and Praz de Lys.
The chalet d’alpage was originally built to house the animals, the families that farmed them, and the hay that fed them during the summer months when the cows, sheep and goats were taken up to the high pasturelands to benefit from the fresh grasses. Some chalets d’alpage are still used to this day for their original purpose, but as traditional farming has declined, chalets d’alpage are increasingly used as a means to escape modern life and get back to nature, and many have been renovated to a remarkably high standard.
Chalet d’alpage Bonnavaz has a footprint of approx 100m2, and other than stone foundations and a small stone supporting wall, the chalet is built entirely of wood. It has a brand new roof, and the main wooden structure of the chalet is in great condition.
A feasibility study has determined that the chalet can be connected with relative ease to the mains water and electricity supply. “Outline planning permission” has been granted, and plans have been drawn up to convert the currently uninhabitable chalet into a 4 bedroom/2 bathroom chalet with garage.
One of the main characteristics of a chalet d’alpage is that it is usually inaccessible by road in the summer, and difficult to access at all in the winter. However, this chalet is the exception to the rule. Accessible by car in the summer, it is also within short walking distance of a “buvette” (a mountain café) and a delightful restored chapel. In the winter, the chalet sits approximately 100m from the nearest snow-cleared road.
Sitting on a plot of over 2000m2, you can survey your kingdom from the tranquility of your secret mountain retreat.
